چکیده

The final project for this special topics class will be to read a paper or papers related to algebraic statistics, write a paper about what you read, and give a presentation to the class on the material. Students are encouraged to explore beyond their paper, i.e. try to come up with questions to think about related to the problem studied in the paper. Timeline: • Feb. 10: Choose paper. Send me an email with an ordered list of papers you would like to work on. First come, first served, no two people can be working on the same paper. • by Mar. 1: Set up a meeting with me to discuss the paper and what questions one might have/want to work on in regards to the paper. • Apr. 9: Rough draft of paper due. • Apr. 16, 21, 23: 22 minute Presentation on paper (individual dates will be assigned later in semester) • Apr. 30: Final draft of paper due. Here are some papers that students might consider as suitable for their reading projects. If you do not like any of these or are interested in some other topic, please talk to me and we can find something suitable for you.

On the De Rham Cohomology of Algebraic Varieties

This is the final project for Prof. Bhargav Bhatt’s Math 613 in the Winter of 2015 at the University of Michigan. The purpose of this paper is to prove a result of Grothendieck [Gro66] showing, for a smooth scheme locally of finite type over C, the algebraic de Rham cohomology is isomorphic to the singular cohomology (with C-coefficients) of its analytification. Our proof follows the exposition...

Efficient Runge-Kutta integrators for index-2 differential algebraic equations

In seeking suitable Runge-Kutta methods for differential algebraic equations, we consider singly-implicit methods to which are appended diagonally-implicit stages. Methods of this type are either similar to those of Butcher and Cash or else allow for the importation of a final derivative from a previous step. For these two classes, with up to three additional diagonallyimplicit stages, we deriv...

On an Algebraic Essential of Submanifold Quantum Mechanics

The submanifold quantum mechanics was opened by Jensen and Koppe (Ann. Phys. 63 (1971) 586-591) and has been studied for these three decades. This article gives its more algebraic definition and show what is the essential of the submanifold quantum mechanics from an algebraic viewpoint. MCS Codes: 34L40, 35Q40, 81T20, 32C25
